Sweet and Sour Cabbage Wedges Recipe

Similar cabbage recipes: Side Dishes

This is a wonderful little dish you can make at home. Its very simple and flavorful.

Serves 4 | Prep time:  5 minutes | Total time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 head green cabbage, quartered through the core
1/2 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
course salt and ground pepper

Start by putting olive oil in a pan (skillet can be used) over medium heat.  Then add the cabbage and cook it until it’s golden brown. Around 3 minutes per each side. Then add vinegar, sugar and 1.5 cups of water. Bring to a simmer. Cook the cabbage until it is tender. You can use a shopstick or fork to test it. Cook about 12 to 15 minutes then serve with salt and pepper. You can also replace the salt with soy sauce which I do from time to time.

Thanks for thebittenword for the recipe.

  1. The browning/caramelizing created some nice flavors….an easy and overall tasty recipe. I would cut the vinegar down to 1/4 cup next time – a little too strong.

  2. Found this recipe when I was looking to add a different taste to my cabbage. I had fried bacon and had no eggs for breakfast so I whipped out the cabbage and cut it into slivers (big shreds). I lightly fried the cabbage in the bacon grease and some olive oil then I simmered the cabbage until done, broke up the bacon into small pieces and then added the apple cider vinegar and sugar to taste. Then I let it carmalize. Was delicious! Thanks for a new way to fix my cabbage!

  3. The sweet and sour cabbage is great. We followed the instructions exactly except we added to the cooking time because we like the cabbage more tender.
The last ten minutes I put in a Polska Kielbasa and made a one pan meal.
Give this a try, I’ll bet you will like it.

  4. I guess you cook it ‘uncovered’ since it wasn’t mentioned?
I hope it cooks thru that way… It’s on the stove now…

I was looking online for a different way to fix my cabbage.I came upon your recipe, and I wanted to let you know how delicious it is.My husband will be in for a treat today, when he gets home and settled down for dinner.I like my cabbage a little crunchy.I don’t want to cook all the nutrition out of it.If you like your cabbage soft then you’ll have to cook a few minutes longer.Great Recipe!
